The Best and Cheapest Ways to Heat Your Home

!±8± The Best and Cheapest Ways to Heat Your Home

There are three very energy efficient and cost effective ways to help heat your house. They are all options I have used in the past and have found them to help tremendously with our heating bill. The first of the three is the use of a space heater. If you live in a house or apartment where you don't need to pay to heat rooms you don't use very often, I've put an oil space heater in the room or rooms I want heated and it will heat the room up in to time at all, provided the size of the heater is sufficient enough for the size of the room. However, even if the space heater is too small for the size of the room, it will still combine with the efforts of your furnace.

The second way to help heat your home and lower your costs is to insulate you windows, or buy new windows. Whether you decide insulate or purchase new windows is mostly determined by whether you're a renter or an owner. Purchasing new windows for your home is going to hit two birds with one stone, one because it improves the value and appearance of your home, and two, it's going to keep that hot air you're paying for inside. If you're a renter you can go about anywhere and buy insulation for your windows. We put these over all of our windows in one of my old houses; you could barely see it and they kept the house a lot warmer.

The third way to help your heating costs to go down is to simply open your blinds during the day. This will let the warm sunlight in thus raising the temperature on the inside of your house. This also works the opposite way in the summer when you're trying to lower your cooling costs. This should go without explaining, but I see people fail to do it all the time and it is really quite amazing how much it helps. Open your windows at night to let the cool air in and makes sure your blinds are closed during the day to keep the hot sunlight out. During the summer this concept obviously has double the effect as is does in the winter and you can't open your windows at night to let the warm air in.

So there you have it, 3 cheap and easy ways to help heat your house in the winter. I've used all 3 and was very happy with all the results. Hope these tips help keep you and your family warm this winter and help save you some money so you can take that vacation this summer.
